A week

B was out at the farm on Saturday and Sunday; she had her friend Erin to visit on Saturday morning and they went riding together, then on Sunday it was Pony Club. Pa dropped her off on the way to work on Monday morning because we had a doctor’s appointment. After a discussion in the car on the way to the doctor’s, we agreed that B would concentrate on her maths book and on the extension workbook ahead of the Department visit, so she’s been plugging away at them each day. I also reminded them that it is Nannie Frog’s birthday this weekend, so they wanted to make her a card/present and I pulled out the bag of photo frames I’ve had waiting since last Christmas! B and K painted them, and found lots of stuff to decorate them with, but we had no glue so we had to go to Bunnings in the afternoon. Just after we got back, there was a massive thunderstorm. On Tuesday we had a quiet day at home, because E took the car to work so he could consult Kidsafe about fitting the child restraints rather more safely. We stayed at home while the electrician fitted the new lights in living room, family and dining, although there was nothing to be done for the fan in the bedroom, alas! Nothing particularly notable.

B was very excited when two packages arrived today, the Little House books that I won on eBay. Little House on the Prairie, another copy of On the Banks of Plum Creek (to replace the one she is reading which is falling apart), Little Town on the Prairie, and These Happy Golden Years. She’s now just about finished Plum Creek, although we don’t yet have a copy of the next one, On the Shores of Silver Lake. Two sites B has looked at this week (aside from Dizzywood and the inevitable Horse Isle):

She also had a long chat with Aunty Anne this morning. I have noticed that her spelling is actually getting better and she’s making more attempts by herself instead of automatically asking. Hurrah!

In the garden today, they both helped me dig holes and plant the three neglected plum trees, planted lettuces in polystyrene boxes, and pull out the silverbeet from the bath tub worm farm.
K has been colouring in, playing on Starfall and Sesame Street websites, watching movies, doing puzzles and playing her My First Scrabble game, and bringing me Beatrix Potter books to read. H said his first sentence today – “Dada” followed by the hand signal for “Bye” when E got up this morning – and while exploring in the pantry, demonstrated that he can climb to the top of the bread flour barrel and investigate the contents of the nappy drawer! Eeep!

B has Scouts tonight, although we forgot to buy her a new Scouts shirt. Oops. We were also half an hour late as we had thought the new time was 6:30 but actually it was 6:00. Oops again. At least she wasn’t actually late for her own induction, as a Significant Mammal was absent. 6 o’clock is going to be Interesting on those nights we don’t have a car, but B doesn’t see any reason why she shouldn’t ride down there, and I’m inclined to agree with her provided she doesn’t come home by herself… In any case, she came home complaining of tummy grumbles, and went straight to bed with her book.
