Thursday was an at-home day since my car was in the garage for a long-overdue service. Unfortunately it was cold and mizzly so I couldn’t just throw the kids outside and let them amuse themselves (ie. they watched a lot of iView). I did a lot of laundry, which is less insane that it sounds given that the forecast was that Friday, at least, would be fine. We also read books, did puzzles, did some craft, and I did some garden edging, but nothing spectacular or memorable. Dylan took her kids away for a couple of hours to run errands, which gave everyone a break from each other, but by the evening we were back to policing the random outbreaks of thumping again.
On Friday, Dylan had a Clever Plan to take the kids to the park while I did the supermarket shopping, and went to investigate the local op shops I discovered last weekend. Apparently they had a lovely time for about an hour and a half, then their interactions started to degenerate so they all walked up to the supermarket to meet me (without anyone running onto the road and getting squashed, which is quite an achievement given that she had four kids and no means of restraining any of them). When we got home, the kids played together happily for a lot longer than they had done on Thursday, thus perhaps indicating that increased parental involvement is a Good Thing. I had picked up some new books and the op shop in the morning, plus one had arrived in the post, so I read to them for a bit. The two books on how chocolate and glass are made from their raw materials were a huge hit and I had to read them quite a few times! In the evening Mr Bat set K up with LOGO on her computer, and she experimented with making different shapes.
